Tryouts

TRYOUTS

Kentridge dance team auditions are held in the spring. The dance team is a great opportunity to connect with your school, build lifelong friendships, improve your dance ability, perform to show off your hard work, and compete to represent Kentridge High School. Tryouts are typically held once a year in May--Don't miss out on this great opportunity! More info below.

When & Where

When are tryouts?

Tryouts (in-person), for the 2021-22 team are June 14-17, 2021 (tentative). Mandatory parent/dancer meeting June 8th at 6:00pm via Zoom.

21-22 Tryouts:

Tryouts in-person, 5:30-8:30pm @ Kentridge Main Gym. (Dependent on district protocol.)

Forms Due

Dancers interested in auditioning should join tryout Band. For link - please input contact information here: https://forms.gle/bAxtoKyGQFcETARDA

Then complete the following below.  Family ID link (will be open June 1-June 14, 2021), Application form, and have two teachers fill out the Teacher Recommendation Form before the deadline you'll be given. This MUST be completed in order to tryout. Thank you!

Note: valid sports physical is required for in-person participation. Please plan ahead and have it complete before June 8th. Sports physicals are good for two years.

Applicants should download, print, fill out and bring the Chatelaine Parent Booster Club Agreement below to Tryouts in June. Thank you!

Audition Overview

Kentridge Chatelaines Dance Team Tryouts

Tentative information for 2021-2022 Season: 

Monday June 14th:  ROOKIE NIGHT - Introduction to Chatelaines; Technique; Learn Short Combo. 

*Possible first cut

Tuesday June 15th: Tryouts - Set Audition Groups; Technique; Learn Combo(s); Q&A

Wednesday June 16th:  Tryouts - Combo(s); Cleaning/Feedback; Q&A

Thursday June 17th:  Final Tryout Performance

Friday June 18th:  Numbers posted and emailed

Tryout Scores

 

  • Teacher Evaluations: 2 @ 30points = 60points

  • Paperwork, Effort, Attitude, Punctuality: 1 @ 40points = 40points

  • Kick/Pom Combo: 3 @ 50points = 150points

  • Jazz Combo: 3 @ 50points = 150points

Total = 400points

 

All routines will be evaluated on:  

                     

  • Memory

  • Showmanship

  • Technique

  • Execution

  • Style

  • Overall Impression.

 

Helpful tips:

  • Participate in tryout Band as much as you can - post, comment, complete conditioning/technique offered

  • Be on time; turn things in on time!

  • Communicate with us about injuries/conflicts, etc. Always go full out (space permitting)
  • Smile, have fun, and keep a positive attitude
  • Ask questions if you have them!

"Never hope for it more than you work for it"

What to wear:

  • Come performance ready every day - appropriate dance attire, hair (completely pulled back from your face), and makeup.

  • Ensure you appropriately wear a mask at all times on KSD school grounds.

  • Choose shoes appropriate for your dance surface.

  • No jewelry - get in the habit of removing ALL jewelry when you dance (practice included - WIAA rule).

 

We do not have a set number for our team. Members will be chosen based on where the break in scores lies. 

All camps are optional, but attending at least 1 camp is highly recommended. Info is subject to change due to COVID-19. Click the following links to check out possible online training and classes.
